Beach Boys move to 1-1 with win over Six Nations

After after a hard fought defeat at the hands of the Barrie Lakeshores on opening night, the Beach Boys hosted the defending Minto Cup champion Six Nations Arrows on Sunday afternoon looking for their first win of the 2016 season.

The Beaches haven’t won against Six Nations since 2004, but the return of Aaron Forster and Jake Cook to the lineup, paired with outstanding performances from some youngsters proved to be enough to take down the Jr. A giants. 

After trailing for most of the game, the Beach Boys began to swing the momentum in their favour in the later minutes of the second period. They went into the 2nd intermission tied 8-8 with goals from Corson Kealey (3), Brody McLean (2), Aaron Forster, Jake Cook and Garrett Lewis. 

The 3rd period saw Beaches goalie Matthew Law hold Six Nations to just 1 goal in the period with a number of timely saves. A powerplay goal from Cory Burr would tied the game at 9 and at the 12:00 mark, Corson Kealey deposited his 4th goal of the game which would eventually become the game winner.

Law – a 5th year Junior A rookie goaltender – earned his first career Jr. A win and was awarded player of the game for the Beach Boys. Honorable mentions go to rookie Corson Kealey on his 4 goal performance and Tristan Hanna with 4 assists.

The Beach Boys will look to build on the win as they host GTA rivals the Mimico Mountaineers on Friday (May 20) at 8pm at Ted Reeve. Friday night will mark the first game in the mini series between both clubs as they battle for the newly created Greg Crombie GTA Challenge Cup. This new award is to commemorate Greg Crombie who was a main figure in both the Toronto Beaches and Mimico Junior lacrosse programs. The winner of the home-and-home season series will be awarded the cup and will retain the championship until the next season series is played.
